ODACA Day 2014
San Antonio, TX

The beautiful J W Marriott Hill Country Resort & Spa in San Antonio Texas was the setting this year for ODACA Day. The hotel had spectacular grounds, spacious rooms, a lovely pool, spa and golf course (which happily entertained more than one accompanying spouse).

The business meeting on Tuesday included the revealing of a new ODACA pin design, which was unanimously approved. New incoming officers Linda Willins (President) and Ute Vasina (First Vice President) were announced and the Joan Ross Sweetheart Award went to a very deserving Theresa May.

All seats were filled for our annual luncheon, which was a great success. Marilynn Huston presented the program entitled "My Journey in Dollmaking" which was most interesting and entertaining.

The helper dolls raffle is always a lot of fun. There were many wonderful donations and very happy winners!

Sarah Maldonado outdid herself with her creation of the centerpiece dolls. Using this year's theme, "The Creative Journey", she created beautiful porcelain ladies in 19th century costume with hat boxes, each seated on a large trunk as if waiting for her journey to begin.

The climax of ODACA day is always the presentation of the souvenir doll. There were "oohs & aahs" from luncheon guests as they opened their souvenir boxes. This year's artist, Angela Jarecki, created adorable whimsical dolls of polymer clay and her signature fiber artistry. Each doll was unique and came with its own birth certificate!
