For me, the joy of art has always been found in the storytelling or conveying of an idea. Over the years I have found that figurative work allows me to combine my love of the human figure, color, texture and the ability to capture a moment.

My work tends to be illustrative, as I am an illustrator by profession. I want my work to engage the viewer and draw them into a world where beauty and fantasy are commonplace and accessible. I usually begin with several drawings and a palette of colors in mind and tend to work in analogous color schemes, as it allows the use of fabrics that are complicated and textural, yet not too busy on a small scale.

I initially worked in cloth primarily, but eventually found paper clay, a medium I find to be challenging and very satisfying to use for the bodies of my dolls. Paper clay has a roughness and visual feel that works well with cloth and embellishment and seems to lend itself to the type of work I hope to achieve.
