Reducing porcelain without distortion

Fire the porcelain greenware one cone less heat than you would to bring
it to a mature piece. All the shrinking will be done but it does not get
quite hot enough to allow small warps and so forth that might go unnoticed
until several reductions later, when you realize you will have to start
over!
