Condition your Polymer Clay
by Myra Sherrod

To condition polymer clay in preparation for sculpting, especially the firmer clays such as Puppen Fimo®, whirl small chunks of clay in a food processor - one with the meat slicing blade attached. Do this in small 'spurts,' being careful not to overheat the clay lest it begin to cure. The chunks will break down into small beads. Dump these out onto a smooth, clean surface (I use my marble candy slab, since I don't make candy any more) and roll into a clay 'snake'. Slice the coil into pieces and repeat the processing, again dumping out the beads and rolling into a coil. Repeat the process once more.

By the third time, the clay will have become soft and malleable, and can easily be kneaded.

Place patties of clay between two sheets of plastic wrap and flatten with a rolling pin. Wrap the clay 'pancakes' in fresh plastic film and store in an airtight container until use.

This procedure virtually eliminates any chances of 'moonies' appearing in the clay. It's also effective in mixing different colors of clay.
