Bio
I have always been drawn to figurative and illustrative art and even as a child I liked to draw. My drawings were mostly of people and animals. I studied art in both high school and college and it was in high school that I learned how to draw people by imitating the works of Brian Froud and other fantasy artists. I always liked the world of fantasy!
I loved creating toys as well and started my career making teddy bears. My teddy bear line, "Kori Bears" became quite popular in retail outlets throughout the Northwest, but I was frustrated that the creative process ended once I created my teddy bear pattern and found it became more like an assembly line type production as my teddy bear sales grew. I realized I needed another outlet for my creative expression.
In 1997, I discovered the book Fantastic Figures by Suzanna Oroyan, and my world turned upside down when I discovered polymer clay! Since that time I have been sculpting original polymer sculptures and love the medium.
My work features primarily children and children’s subjects, such as fairy tales and folklore. I try and convey the magic and innocence of children and all of the wonderful stories that children love so much in all of my dolls! It is my hope that the collector will find a spark of remembrance and magic when they pick up one of my dolls. I also hope that they will enjoy my dolls, as much as I enjoy creating them.
